Planning permission in Letchworth

I have read with interest the "invitation" to Letchworth residents to applly for retrospective planning permission for replacement windows etc. It seems the local authority (The Letchworth Garden CIty Heritage Foundation) are prepared to give each resident up to £6,000 or 50% of the cost to replace the windows back to the original design.

I have several big problem with this.

1. The residents owning their houses and land in Letchworth made the choice to change their windows with the designs of their choice. What right does some little Hitler with a big job title have to dictate what design or style of window anybody must have in their own property?

2. What a waste of public money spending millions of pounds replacing perfectly good windows because they do not meet the aesthetic desires of some dictator with a grand job title?

3. The condition of the roads in Letchworth is as bad or worse than those in a third world country. They are full of potholes and in a deperate state is disrepair. If the authorities have all this money to waste, why dont they spend it on bringing the roads up to an acceptable standard and not on windows which are perfectly ok in the first place.

Reading a little more of the Letchworth dictatorship policies, I see you are now also forbidden to cut down a tree in your garden without their approval. Or, a hedge, or it seems anything at all which could alter the appearence of your own property.

I feel pretty confident these ludicrous and petty regulations are way above any restrictive laws you would see in any facist or communist dictatorship or police state. England is (or was) a free country whose people fought 2 world wars to rescue the world from this kind of stupididy. I for one want my country back. It has gone too far and I almost feel imprisoned and helpless in the face of all these awful stupidities. The people of this country can make a simple decision to remove a tree on their own property, or change their windows without being told how they should or should not do it. I have a simple message for the people deciding these rules:

"Go and make a life for yoursleves by doing something useful and stop interfering in other peoples freedoms"

I really wish they would do this.
